The Meaning Behind ODÌ

ODÌ takes his name from Odídẹrẹ́, the Yorùbá name for the African grey parrot—a highly intelligent bird recognized for its powerful voice, remarkable memory, grey feathers, and striking red tail.

The parrot is also known in Yorùbá as Ayékòótọ́, meaning “the world rejects the truth.” The name reflects the bird’s reputation for repeating what it hears without fear or favoritism. It does not change the message to make others comfortable—it speaks what was said.

The name was shortened to ODÌ to create a distinctive LSSTLK character while preserving its Yorùbá origin and cultural meaning.

Throughout Yorùbá tradition, the parrot’s red tail feathers have represented prestige, royalty, leadership, and sacred authority. ODÌ is therefore more than a mascot. He represents intelligence, observation, cultural heritage, truth, and the confidence to speak with purpose.
